About
Sycamore
|
|
For
over a century the staff at Sycamore have embraced the vision that
learning is a lifelong process and that all students need to be
accountable for their learning, actions, and choices. That is why
at Sycamore we challenge our students to be cooperative learners,
we help them to realize that there are multiple solutions to all
problems and we encourage them to reflect upon, understand and evaluate
their own learning and thought process.

After
School Enrichment Program
After school enrichment classes provide opportunities for students
enrolled at Sycamore to continue their learning after the official
school day ends. The enrichment classes are offered by local community
members and parents in such areas as ceramics, art, dance, movement,
photography, foreign languages, chess and music. Class offerings vary
from session to session. Although the program is coordinated by volunteers,
the teachers are paid for their time and expertise. Incidentally,
we are always looking for more people to teach these classes and for
new subjects not currently offered. Students pay a nominal fee for
the classes, which help to pay the teacher of the class, obtain materials,
as well as provide scholarships for the program. There are typically
three sessions per year?Fall, Winter, and Spring. Registration forms
are sent home with children and need to be turned in to the office
with a check for the class fee as soon as possible. Enrollment is
limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. Enrichment
class participant lists are posted after the enrollment process outside
the Office. |

Classroom
The
staff at Sycamore have developed programs to expand the opportunities
for students to participate in practical experiences which allow
them to connect with the larger community. Involvement in Community
Service Learning projects with The Claremont Manor, Montgomery Gallery,
UCC Child Center, and AbilityFirst have allowed upper grade students
to build a strong correlation between service and learning. Check
out the Classrooms
page to view the progress and achievements of our students in every
